Elements and Performance Criteria
- Operate mobile crane
- Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
- In ascent and descent to/from crane, correct use is made of means provided, in accordance with relevant codes of practice and workplace procedures
- Required signals are correctly given, interpreted and followed in accordance with appropriate workplace procedures
- Boom is positioned to ensure load to be lifted is plumbed under hook
- Load is hoisted and lowered into position using crane movements, in accordance with appropriate workplace procedures
- Crane controls are operated smoothly
- Crane is shut down and secured during periods of non-operation, in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Monitor lift conditions
- Load is constantly monitored to ensure load and structural stability
- Conditions that may affect continuing stability of crane are identified and monitored
- Unplanned situations are responded to in accordance with workplace procedures in a manner that minimises risk to personnel and equipment
- Dogger is advised of new information that affects lift
- Necessary changes to job plan are discussed and confirmed with rest of crew
- Advice is sought from supervisor where there is doubt about correct response to unanticipated conditions, or conflict with customer request
- Supervisor/allocator is advised of concerns about completing job within timeframe
- Implement shut-down procedures
- Pack up crane
- Crane is de-rigged with other crane personnel in accordance with manufacturer instructions
- All lifting equipment and crane components are checked in consultation with crane personnel for signs of deterioration or damage in accordance with appropriate Australian Standard
- Damaged or worn equipment is segregated and reported to authorised person for testing/repair/destruction
- Crane and equipment are correctly stowed and secured in accordance with manufacturer instructions and appropriate Australian Standard
- Complete job records
- Customer feedback is sought about satisfaction with completed job, and areas of concern are reported in accordance with workplace procedures
- Customer signature on job completion documentation is obtained
- Required workplace records are updated accurately and promptly, and processed in accordance with workplace procedures
